September - I hadn’t done much flying since the arrival of our daughter. One, I didn't want to leave her side and two, I had been sleep deprived for several months.
Labor day weekend, was the perfect time to fly back to Michigan. We were having our family estate sale and I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to get my wings back and be able to pack anything I wanted in the plane. In truth, I would catch up on some much needed sleep.
Santa Monica KSMO to Albuquerque NM KABQ
KABQ to Wichita KS KICT
Wichita to South Bend Indiana
KSNB South Bend to Caro Michigan KCFS
A total of 14 hours of flying. On the way back, I flew from Caro Michigan to KSTL - Saint Louis MO in one hop, nearly 4 hours. Landing in St. Louis was exciting, but super expensive. I don’t recall ever landing somewhere, where I paid an Infrastructure fee, a handling fee, a landing fee and a premium on AV Gas $8.44 per gallon. The chocolate chip cookies were good, but not that good.
Day one of the flight back, put me back at Wichita. The greatest customer service one could ask for is at the FBO Yingling Aviation. I ran into a flight instructor who helped me plan my route the following morning. Given the rain, high winds and lightening int he area, we decided to head south toward Texas.
Amarillo TX KAMA was the next stop the early the next morning. Apparently, it’s a favorite of Harrison Ford’s as well. Easy place to land, and wonderful service as well.
